Tokyo trial defined in pictures

In early 2018, the Shanghai Federation of Social Affairs commissioned the Tokyo Trial Research Center to organize a series of activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the publication of "The Tokyo Trial." The most impressive of these was the epic mural "The Tokyo Trial" (172m x 4m) by the artist Li Bin, a truly monumental work. The video and photographic materials acquired by the Tokyo Trial Research Center and Shanghai Jiaotong University Press were sourced from public and private collection institutions both within China and abroad. Upon accepting the commission, Cui Xia, editor of Shanghai Jiaotong University Press, expressed her hope to compile an atlas on "The Tokyo Trial." The idea of ¿¿compiling the atlas had been conceived by Shanghai Jiaotong University Press since the establishment of the Tokyo Trial Research Center. However, it was not published at that time because the National Library Press had already released "A Collection of Photographs on the History of the Tokyo Trial," which included photographs compiled from the National Archives of the United States and incorporated into the National Library's atlas and the Shanghai Jiaotong University Press edition. At that time, photographs were merely "raw material" (primarily camera images). Video recordings were not yet available, and most historical events lacked complete video footage. Even valuable photographs could only capture a small fraction of the historical events. The photographs document the Tokyo trial from the opening session to the verdict. Selected according to historical and practical considerations, the images aim to present all aspects of the trial in a panoramic view. This approach is unique in its richness and richness in depicting the events in Tokyo.
