Operetta

This volume is dedicated to a cultural asset that has reclaimed a place on theatre schedules with productions worthy of discussion: Operetta has experienced a productive resurgence of interest in the genre itself. It reflects on the current situation of the genre from various different viewpoints, rooted both in theory and in practice. Neither portraits of creators nor individual productions are in its focus. It comprises topics such as the fundamental question of the relevance of operetta in the 21st century, the staging between considering the genre a historical phenomenon and new inventive ways, creative attempts at renewal of the genre and the - largely unsatisfactory - situation of specific training for the singers as well as the multifaceted challenges for the performers. The lively discussion rounds, which formed a key part of the international conference I want more logic than the world can handle, so I prefer to live where it's lacking: Operetta - an assessment, on which the book is based, bear witness to the continued relevance of operetta up to the present dayno matter how diverse the approaches and interpretations may be.
